“Islam has reached 70,000 Hispanics this past year.” – a startling statement to begin with . . . in other words, this speaker is trying to light a fire under us to see the opportunity.  Do we have a willing heart to minister to Hispanics?

 Understand the Culture of Hispanics

1.  Don’t talk bad about their heroes.  If you criticize Mary, they will shut you out.  “She was an honest, good, pure Jewish woman.” 

2.  Don’t talk bad about their church (Catholicism), just get them into the Bible.  It is not religion; it is relationship.  We need to share the gospel.

3.  Don’t talk bad about their country, even if parts are corrupt.  “I lived their for 25 years.”

4.  The speaker mentions how important it is to reach Hispanics within the first twelve months.  American materialism is pulling at them.

5.  Offer classes using Bible terms in order to teach English.

6.  Learn something about their language.  Know the difference between a formal and the familiar greeting.

7.  Matriarchal society.  Men love to make families, but they don’t like the responsibility.

Q & A Time 

Question on Hispanic gangs in the public school system:  they want to be accepted, loved, and needed.  Give them the gospel.

Question on matriarchal society:  who really does rule the roost?  The father is the head, but the wife is the neck that turns the head.  Or how about this?  “I have the last say in the house – ‘Yes ma’am.’ ”

Question – how do we integrate our white church with a Hispanic populace?  We need bilingual churches.  But don’t force things.  Find points of joyous contact.
