Last night, I did something radical. For my Isaiah 40 study, I played a 46 second song sung by the MTC.
Powerful. Do you know which song I am thinking that references a full verse in this text?
Sometime, we need to get into a big discussion over this text.
Handel’s Messiah
“Comfort ye My People” covers verses 1-3
“Every Valley Shall Be Exalted” – verse 4
“And the Glory of the Lord” – verse 5
Our local choir in Wyoming (back when I lived there) pulled off a two-hour performance of selections from the Messiah. Rank-amateurs all of us, but an electrifying experience indeed.
Incidentally, Isaiah 40:31 is probably my favorite verse in the entire Bible.
Nope, it’s not the song I used, Seth. 🙂
Guess again.
I think I’ve heard the MoTab do verse 9. It’s a beautiful verse which Latter-day Saints would probably interpret as the Covenant People bringing the good tidings of the Restoration to scattered Judah. 🙂
…Is that the discussion you are talking about?
Nope, BiV.
Give me one more guess, and I will give you the answer.
For me, it is a tremendous song!
I’m going to go with “Have Ye Not Known” from Peaceable Kingdom?
Uh, Isaiah 40:21, to back up my argument.
Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
Bullseye, Tate.
How can I doubt? How I worship my material things here in Idaho Falls?
I need to transport myself to the throneroom of Jehovah with all the vast celestial court and listen to the thunderous roar of this song.
But here it the cool part, Tate. In the same chapter, the incredible, incomparable King is the tender shepherd.
The real, personal, loving embrace is like none other.
I am smiling. I am ready to dance.
So did I win a car or at least a magic wand to repair my 4WD? With this Idaho snow, that’d be helpful. I may not know anything about apologetics, but entertainment trivia… Plus I’m pretty sure I played an arrangement of Peaceable Kingdom in high school band or something like that…
Somehow I think you could do a year’s worth of study in Isaiah 40 alone…
Come rent a movie tonight (Friday) and you can be baffled by my true wackiness…
“A year’s worth of study in Isaiah 40 alone” . . . you read my mind.
Do you work every Friday?
There is not really any pattern to my schedule. I don’t work Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Otherwise, I’m likely to be there 2-4 nights a week. Your wife came through my line last Sunday in fact. In the nearest future…Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, all in the evening.
Kristie is the much better one in my family.
