Ok guys, three weeks into the new year, I will make my first succinct post on my personal reading in the Book of Mormon.
And remember, I purchased an 1830 edition. (Having just read chapter 1, I’ve noticed this seems to be chapters 1-5 in a modern BoM.)
Would you like to know what first caught my attention?
. . . and also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the ETERNAL GOD, manifesting Himself unto all nations. And now if there be fault, it be the mistake of men; wherefore condemn not the things of God, that ye may be found spotless at the judgment seat of Christ.
I confess to you that in many ways I am ignorant of what is the precise LDS parameters on Christology. So please lead me to the proper articles that help shed understanding to my ignorance. I would appreciate any links and comments to my questions in this 2008 journey.
I am happy with the statement, “Jesus is the Christ.” But I am not pleased with this declaration, “Jesus is the eternal God.” For I believe the Bible reveals: the Father is eternal God; the Christ is eternal God; and the Spirit is eternal God.
The definite article should point to all three as eternal God. Since I see all three, Father, Son, and Spirit expressed as Yahweh in Scripture, I would eagerly rejoice in the creedal statement: Yahweh is the eternal God.
Is the referring the reader to the idea of Jesus being the eternal God of this world? (I can see where the N.T. would put a definite article in front of God when referring specifically to the Father.)
And how might the eternality of Jesus differ from the eternality of the Father? Or would there be any difference?
Thanks.

Have you read Blake’s last two chapters (pgs. 409-488) of his first volume that are dedicated to exactly this/these question/s Todd? I would recommend that in-depth discussion to get you started.
Dart, what am I going to do with you? 🙂
Because of you, I will need to have all of Blake’s books sitting on my shelf.
Todd, Blake just happens to write all of his books about topics you always want to discuss, and in ways I think you would find most engaging. I think you should do yourself a favor and just get them.
Plus then I won’t have to say that you need to get them anymore–and that’ll save me at least 20 seconds of typing per post you write 🙂
