I have looked at two books:
1. Jesus (Thomas Nelson, 2008) by Chuck Swindoll
2. The Third Jesus (Harmony Books, 2008) by Deepak Chopra
Deepak offers to you not the (1) historical Jesus of the biblical scholars, nor (2) the Jesus defined by orthodox religion, but (3) a third Jesus.
Which Jesus in the two books do you have the most affinity with?
One thing for sure, Deepak rejects the Christian fundamentalists.
“They equate taking the Bible literally with being a good Christian, despite the mountain of evidence — only a fraction of it mentioned in this book — that Jesus’ teachings have been muddled, obscured, altered, corrupted, and lost over the centuries. Attempts to return to the pure origin of Christianity are doomed from the start, but this only fuels fundamentalist zeal” (221-222).
And note this fools’ gold nugget by Deepak, expressed more and more in America:
“Absolute truth is a blind truth” (229).
I feel sorry for Deepak. And I pray for him, today.
there are many jesus, but only one christ.
Yeah, well, Deepak’s not a Christian, is he?
Kullervo, I am scratching my head over your question.
Deepack quotes the Bible, and yet he scoffs at biblical Christianity.
Am I suppose to call him a Christian because he talks about Jesus and warm, cozy, peaceful, encompassing, beautiful light?
