Ten Reasons Why I Believe the Bible

We removed the previous HI4LDS posting of R. A. Torrey’s “Ten Reasons Why I Believe the Bible” because it was doing funky things to the blog.

Here is R. A. Torrey’s article for all to read.

And for any of you who had linked to this particular blog entry, could you just adjust your link to this HI4LDS post.

Thanks for you patience.

[I just got back from a great three-day men’s retreat in Wyoming.  Fabulous time.  We will soon tell you about it over on http://Idaho4HisGlory.wordpress.com ]

Mormons and Monotheism

Look at Doug’s last sentence in comment 40 of this thread

He is the God.

And now look at the last phrase in Ezra 1:3 (KJV):  “(he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem.”

I am studying Isaiah 45, which leads me to two questions:

1.  Do LDS friends have a view like ancient King Cyrus concerning God’s status?

2.  Was Cyrus the Son’s messiah? or the Father’s messiah?

HI4LDS Interviews with Previous Mormons – Ruthie Mogan

I would like to pick up again on this series by interviewing another sister, Ruthie Mogan, in our church family.

Todd:  Ruthie, could you share a little about your LDS upbringing?  What became the catalyst for your leaving Mormonism?  Today, how would you describe your relationship with Jesus Christ?  Also, is there anything that you would like to express from your heart to the hearts of readers and those friends whom you mingle with in the LDS community? Ice Cream Flavors of Baptists

Tony Jones is the national coordinator of Emergent VillageI just went through his colorful, multi-flavored new book, The New Christians:  Dispatches from the Emergent Frontier (Jossey-Bass, 2008).

Tony, I confess.  You did have me laughing on a few choice descriptions.  I need a little comic relief in the midst of many of the other things I disagreed with in the book.  I enjoyed this one-liner. (more…)

Is Mormonism a Cult?

This is the big question in the opinion page of today’s local paper, the Post Register.

Local columnist, Dino Lowrey writes,

I know you’ve heard this rumor, perhaps even passed it along or nodded in silent agreement, that “Mormonism is a cult.”  From a sociological perspective, Mormonism was a cult, but then again, every religious institution on the face of the earth, past or present, began as a cult.  Let’s probe a bit deeper. . . . Restoration of all things

[Scott W. wrote this and sent this by email in consideration to be a post on HI4LDS.  I took him up on his offer.  It is a good post. – Todd]

The Apostle Peter proclaimed the coming of “the period of restoration of all things” in his sermon to the unbelieving Jews:

Acts 3:19 “Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; 20 and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, 21 whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time.”

What is this restoration and when will it take place?  It is almost without question that this passage teaches that “the restoration of all things” takes place when the Lord Jesus Christ returns from heaven to judge the world and bring in everlasting righteousness through a renewed earth.  This interpretation – if not clearly established from the context of Acts 3:19-21 – is further confirmed by a similar word and context found in the Gospel According to Matthew. Berean’s first article of faith – The Bible

In this series of short articles, I would like to post for you one by one the articles of faith in the printed constitution for Berean Baptist Church in Ammon, Idaho.  I invite you all to share your comments.  Hey, this is your great opportunity to ask me all those questions that have been lingering in your mind and bugging you about what the Baptist preacher in your backyard believes.  I am working through with my church family on the clarity of these printed paragraphs in our church constitution.

Are you ready? (more…)
