Mother’s Day in Rexburg, Idaho

After extended celebration in Ammon, Idaho, last night my family drove up to Rexburg and stepped inside the small, pine-wood church building of Grace Baptist Church in Rexburg.  Looking out the window from the auditorium, you can view the almost completed LDS temple up on the ridge.  When the open house is announced, I will attend.  It will be my first time ever walking inside an LDS temple.

Meanwhile, inside this cozy place of Grace Baptist Church, we sang Christian songs and hymns.  Here are some excerpts:

Mother’s Prayers Have Followed Me

I grieved my Lord from day to day, I scorned His love so full and free, And though I wandered far away, My mother’s pray’rs have followed me.

I’m coming home, I’m coming home, To live my wasted life anew, For mother’s pray’rs have followed me, Have followed me the whole world thru!

This song reminded me of the persistent prayers by Augustine and Newton’s mothers.

Faith of Our Mothers

Faith of our mothers, Christian faith, In truth beyond our stumbling creeds, Still served the home and save the Church, And breath thy spirit thro’ our deeds:  Faith of our mothers, Christian faith!  We will be true to thee till death.

My Mother’s Bible

For the Eyes of the Lord (written by Daniel J. Hadik, 2002)

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth.  To show Himself strong in behalf of them whose heart is perfect, perfect t’ward Him.

The song is based on II Chron. 16:9a, the theme verse for Red Cliff Bible Camp in Wyoming.

After the singing, Joe Lacy (my brother-in-law) preached from two chapters in the Bible, I Kings 17 and Mark 7.  The two mothers in these chapters expressed obedient faith and humble faith.  God brought these two precious mothers to a point where they had no resources except God alone.

We concluded the service with a hymn of worshipful invitation – Only Trust Him.

Gathering with this local church family, the God-Focus atmosphere strengthened my heart.
