Triunity of God Conference * Berean Baptist Church * March 14-16, 2014

Trusting and Treasuring our God

Session #3 Handout – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in Full Color

From the seeds planted in the Old Testament, everything in the New Testament breaks out in full color and centralizes on the Trinitarian relationship of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The ______________________ sends  His ________________________.  The __________________________ and His __________________________ send the ____________________________.

  1. It begins with the birth of Jesus and His baptism – Matthew 3:16-17
  2. Before Jesus ascends into heaven, He instructs us to make disciples, baptizing them in the _________________ of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit – Matt. 28:19
  3. We can meditate on the Trinitarian gospel in the first part of Romans  – 1) the _______________________________ upon sin (1:18-3:20), 2)_________________________________________, by which God justifies and sanctifies the ungodly (3:21-7:25), (3) and __________________________________________________ (8:1-39)
  4. Paul mentions the three Persons together in Romans 1:1-4, 5:1-5, 6:4, 8:1-4, 8-9, 11, 14-17, 15:16, 30. See also I Cor. 6:11, 12:4-6, 2 Cor. 1:21-22, 3:3-4, 5:5-8, 13:14, Gal. 4:6, Eph. 1:3-14, 2:18, 22, 3:2-5, 14-17, 4:4-6, 5:18-20, Phil. 3:3, Col. 1:6-7, I Thess. 1:2-6, 5:18-19, 2 Thess. 2;13-14, I Tim. 3:15-16, Titus 3:4-6.
  5. Other N.T. writers also bring in all Three:  Heb. 2:3-4, 6:4-6, 9:14, 10:29-31, I Pet. 1:2, 4:13-19, I John 4:2, 13-14, 5:6-12, Jude 20-21, Rev. 1:4-5.

The reality of the New Testament is that there are three distinct, divine Persons.  And also, the New Testament does not contradict the Old Testament by making very clear that there is one true God.

Here are 25 verses in the New Testament that proclaim it:  Matt. 4:10, Matt. 19:17, Mark 2:7, Mark 10:18, Mark 12:29, John 5:44, John 10:30, John 14:6, John 14:9-11, John 17:3, John 17:21, Acts 4:12, Rom. 16:27, I Cor. 8:4, I Cor. 8:6, I Cor. 12:4-6, Eph. 4:5, Eph. 4:6, I Thess. 1:9, I Tim. 2:5, James 2:19, James 4:12, I John 5:7,and  Jude 4.
