I can’t sleep
This last Wednesday, we looked at Isaiah 56 as the next chapter in our inductive study.
Tomorrow, we shall examine John 10:11-18.
It is an incredible, radical Isaianic-Johannine connection.
John’s hinge back to Isaiah is verse 16. Do you see it?
How does the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2008 deal with this verse?
It’s 11:44 pm. I am wide awake.
What does this Shepherd lack? Nothing

Bloggernacle Quote of the Month
Someday, will Mogget be teaching a class on fundamentalism? If she does, I am wondering who she would pull in as a guest lecturer on the topic. I do have a number of recommendations for the class exposure. 😉
Umm, she does parse the fundamentalist in this fashion within the thread of her musings on Catholicism and Modernity: (more…)
A quick peek at my father
Last night, we had some of the church family come over to our house for some backyard fellowship.
It was a beautiful evening: instruction from Proverbs, testimonies about our fathers, prayer, fellowship, food, and laughter. Our children had a ball playing and romping around with the other children.
I am deeply thankful for my father, who is not only a great father but a terrific grandfather.
He helped us build our first church building. And he is currently helping us on this second building.
If you were to step in our church prayer room today, on the floor you would notice a large scrap of plywood. This piece has been cut out of our north wall to make room for a serving window into the new fellowship/educational wing.
Years ago, my father wrote on this piece of wood:
Be Content. Philippians 4:11. Elon Wood
I love my dad.

I know this post by Jim Getz would be of interest to my LDS O.T. academic friends.
Criticism
Robb writes a post on critcism . . . and that there is too much of it in the body of Christ.
Emergent Christianity seems weary of valid critique within orthodox Christianity toward all the errant, frontier, entrepreneur, postmodern strands of evangelicalism. Yet there is a place for critique among all who claim to be Christ’s sheep on this earth. Some are not real sheep. Some are not real shepherds (Isaiah 56:11, Ezekiel 34, John 10).
